≑ Murdah Loves John ≑
‘Murdah Loves John’ is the second in a series of character albums to emerge from the mind of Idris Elba. Inspired by his time portraying TV detective John Luther, Idris presents a unique musical interpretation of the sinister themes and settings explored in the series.
The title track, ‘Murdah Loves John’ is a dark journey of synth beats and sombre lyrics, creating a gloomy soundscape for Luther’s murder mysteries – a tribute to the detective and his wild life.
Threading shadow-boxin’ lyrics from UK Grime artist, Wretch 32 and smooth vocal runs from newcomer Tanika Bailey enhances the gritty urban flavour of the piano-led melange of echoey tones, sophisticated strings, dark synth lines and dramatic keys. Epic industrial builds @1:55 and 2:40.
Annie Mac premiered the grandiose track and described it as “widescreen.” Elba called it a Bond-esque theme song, but however you wish to define this track, you will have to agree, it has John Luther written all over it!
