Those who spend their time discovering new Belgian talent will have undoubtedly come across the singer-songwriter, Catbug. And if for some reason she fell under your radar, the track, ‘Burrow’ is as good an intro as any of her quietly tender compositions!

Paulien Rondou aka ‘Catbug’ released her debut album ‘Universe’ via the indie Belgium label, ‘Illuminine Records’ in 2018. Through each of her eleven songs, Catbug shares intimate stories, all notably bathed in sombre atmospheres of films like ‘Old Joy’ by Kelly Reichardt.

Paulien lives on a farm on the outskirts of Antwerp. And it was here, specifically where she recorded material for her eponymous recording.  As a matter of fact, it turned out to be the perfect place to create this album, indeed; an ode to not only loneliness, but also being one with nature, dreaming of faraway places and mountain landscapes.

It’s here, on the soft meandering track, ‘Burrow‘, where Catbug takes the listener on a journey through her artistic fantasies.

A melancholic lo-fi folk theme with a nostalgic melody that envelopes ‘Burrow’ in a sheath of dreamy tenderness; interweaving between gentle, abstract strums of a finger-picked guitar as a wistful mandolin accompanies Paulien’s frail, airy vibrato vocals.

Let Catbug entangle you in her musical nets…
