‘Quiet Riots’, the new album from The High Strung, is a dimensional and estranged look at ‘60s pop that bellows out jangled entanglements. We think we know what we are getting ourselves into but The High Strung are masters at keeping time out of joint.
Beautifully played, sentimental pop offering, ‘Death For Us Is A Mixture of Moods‘ is loaded with a swirling 60s organ melody, infused with harmonic vocal group chorus behind emotive lead male vocals that soar above ringing acoustic guitars and addictive hooks, full of unexpected chord and tempo changes.
The High Strung lean more toward their own meld of fervent, aerodynamic three-minute ballads inserting that nuance into the arrangements – and poetic storytelling into the lyrics, all the while being keen on finding some kind of middle ground between Guided By Voices and the Who.
