The Craft of Music Production:
What is music production? With the recent introduction of high-quality-low-cost software, the tools of music production are now available to the masses. Albums can be made in bedrooms as well as studios. On first thought, this is liberating. Anyone can make an album for the low cost of a couple pieces of gear and a software package. But, when you dig just a little deeper, you will find that it is not that easy. Producing music requires knowledge, dedication, patience and creativity.
What does a music producer do? Well, a good producer will take on your idea and create an engaging song, applying standard guidelines while also providing creative input and a tuned ear as to what else can be added to make it distinctive, memorable and commercially viable. I provide ideas and subtle revisions to your music that might give it a more revealing, moving, dynamic, complex or soulful feel – itself well to your idea, track and overall sound and aspiration.
To complete an album, a producer needs to know what goes into capturing great music and teasing out inspirational performances from artists. As a producer, my job is to guide not only the music, but also the business and the technical aspects of an single or album.
As a Producer, I incorporate various elements that affect the ambience and timbre…of synthesizers, repetition, phrases, effects, movement and energy as well as various instrumentation on chord progressions. I also compose remixes of existing songs, turning them into something much newer, fresher or spin the recording into a new or different genre to reach a wide and varied audience.
My role and goal, in every music production project, is to envelope the best in a vocal or musical performance. Multiple takes will assure that only the best parts are used to produce a better flow, dynamic energy and overall powerful performance while affirming the vocal track is impeccable along with the lyrics – so much so that they leave a meaningful footprint in the minds of the listener.
As a Music producer, I am here to advise and inspire a musician to launch their career, help to establish them within the music industry and, when plausible, provide the basis for an individual musician to show off their own talent.
